About 46

Asda isn't a good bet for charging. Most of its chargers were switched off after its deal with BP Pulse ended in October 2023, and only about 46 charging points were reported to be left, down from 165. Asda has said it is reviewing its options, but it has no network of its own.

The chargers that still work are run by different companies, so the price depends on the store. evpoint chargers cost about 65p per kWh and GeniePoint chargers about 83p. There's no Asda app, and Asda Rewards doesn't cover charging.

What will a charge cost for your car?

Set to the evpoint rate. Change it to 83 for a GeniePoint charger.

Adding 36 kWh costs about £23.40

Before you go to Asda to charge

  1. Check Zapmap or the operator's app to see whether your Asda store has a working charger. Many stores still have chargers on site that are switched off.
  2. Look at who runs it. evpoint chargers are about 65p per kWh, GeniePoint about 83p.
  3. Pay by contactless where the charger takes it, or use the operator's app or an RFID card.
  4. If your nearest Asda has nothing, a nearby Tesco, Aldi or Lidl is usually cheaper anyway.

Cheaper supermarket options

Asda is one of the most expensive and least reliable supermarket options. Rapid charging costs 59p per kWh at Lidl with Lidl Plus, 62p at Aldi and 69p at Tesco. On a 36 kWh charge, that's £21.24 at Lidl against £29.88 on an 83p GeniePoint charger at Asda.

Only at a small number of stores. Most of Asda's chargers were switched off after its partnership with BP Pulse ended in October 2023, leaving about 46 charging points.

How much does it cost to charge at Asda?

It depends on who runs the charger. evpoint chargers cost about 65p per kWh and GeniePoint chargers about 83p.

Is Asda EV charging free?

Generally no. A few older slow chargers may be free, but they're unreliable, so check Zapmap before you rely on one.

Do I get Asda Rewards for charging?

No. Asda Rewards doesn't cover EV charging, and there's no Asda charging app.
