Most Aldi chargers are now run by Drax Electric Vehicles. In June 2026 Drax took over around 1,200 chargers at more than 250 Aldi stores, and it's fitting chargers at new stores as they open. Fast charging costs 40p per kWh and rapid charging 62p, with no subscription.

You can tap a contactless card on the charger, or use the Charge Assist app to check availability and pay. A few Aldi stores have Shell Recharge chargers instead, which have their own prices.

Set to a rapid charge. Change the rate to 40 for a fast charger.

Adding 36 kWh costs about £22.32

How to charge at Aldi

  1. Check the charger's screen or the Charge Assist app to see whether it's a Drax charger and what it costs.
  2. Plug in, then tap your contactless card on the reader, or start the session in the app.
  3. Check the car park signs for a maximum stay. Aldi car parks are usually for customers while they shop.

Shell Recharge chargers at Aldi

Some Aldi stores have Shell Recharge chargers rather than Drax ones. These cost more: rapid charging on Shell Recharge is 64p to 79p per kWh in the Shell app, or 74p to 89p by contactless. See our Shell Recharge guide.

Common questions

Is Aldi EV charging free?

No, not at the Drax-run chargers, which cost 40p per kWh on fast chargers and 62p on rapid chargers. Older chargers at a few stores may have different terms, so check the charger before you plug in.

Do I need an app to charge at Aldi?

No. Drax chargers take contactless cards, and there's no subscription. The Charge Assist app is optional and lets you check availability first.

Is Aldi cheaper than Tesco?

Yes, slightly. Aldi's rapid rate is 62p per kWh against 69p at Tesco, and its fast rate is 40p against Tesco's 44p for 7kW charging.

How fast are Aldi's chargers?

New Aldi sites get fast AC chargers of up to 22kW and rapid DC chargers of up to 160kW, though your car's own limit decides how fast it actually charges.
