EDF GoElectric: rates, hours and is it worth it?
Quick answer
Off-peak rate
6.66p per kWh
Off-peak hours
11pm–6am
Exit fee
£75 per fuel
EDF GoElectric gives you 6.66p per kWh for seven hours, from 11pm to 6am. It's the cheapest overnight rate we've found that doesn't need a smart charger, and its low peak rate makes it the best overall value in our comparison. EDF cut it from 6.99p at the end of September 2026. Unlike Intelligent Octopus Go, you don't need a smart charger. Any EV and any charger will do, as long as you can set charging to start after 11pm.

What you need
- A smart meter. The tariff needs one to record when you use electricity.
- A way to charge overnight. Set a timer in your car or your charger so charging starts after 11pm. No smart charger is needed.
How much could you save?
Charging 2,400 kWh a year, roughly 8,000 miles, costs about £160 at 6.66p per kWh, compared with about £632 at the 26.32p price cap rate. That's around £472 a year saved on the car.
EDF's peak rate is the big difference from other EV tariffs. At around 27.5p it's only slightly above the price cap, so your daytime electricity barely costs more. A household using 2,700 kWh a year outside the cheap hours would pay only about £32 more for it. Overall that's roughly £440 a year better off, a much bigger saving than most EV tariffs offer, though the peak rate in your region may differ.
Who it suits
Good fit: almost any EV driver who charges at home, especially if your car or charger isn't on Octopus's compatible list, or you use a lot of electricity during the day.
Watch out for: the £75 per fuel exit fee if you leave within the 12-month fix, and the regional peak rate, which you should check on your quote.
