| Standing charge | About 54p a day on average |
| Contract | Fixed until March 2028 |
| Exit fee | £200 per fuel |
As reported for October 2026. Some trackers list the off-peak rate as 9p, so confirm it with British Gas.
What you need
- A smart meter. British Gas will fit one free if you don't have one.
- Any EV and any home charger. No smart charger is needed. Set a timer in the car or charger to start after midnight.
How much could you save?
Charging 2,400 kWh a year costs about £228 at 9.5p per kWh, compared with about £632 at the 26.32p price cap rate, a saving of around £404 on the car.
The peak rate of around 36.90p is well above the price cap, so 2,700 kWh of daytime use costs about £286 more. That leaves you roughly £118 a year better off. Because the cheap rate covers your whole home, running appliances overnight increases the saving.
Who it suits
Good fit: you want your rates fixed for a long time, your charger isn't smart, or you're already with British Gas. Moving to another British Gas tariff is free.
Watch out for: the £200 per fuel exit fee, which is high if you might switch supplier before March 2028. EDF GoElectric currently has cheaper off-peak and peak rates.
