Quick answer
Grant amount
Up to £500
Rose from
£350 (April 2026)
Who claims it
Your installer
The government pays up to £500 towards installing a home EV charger, but only for certain households. It rose from £350 on 1 April 2026. There are two schemes for individuals: one for renters and flat owners with private parking, and one for homes with only on-street parking.
Who can get a grant
| Scheme | Who qualifies | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Renters and flat owners | You own and live in a flat, or rent and live in any home, and you have private off-street parking | Up to £500 |
| Households with on-street parking | You own or rent your home, only have on-street parking, and install a cross-pavement solution such as a charging gully | Up to £500 |
Homeowners with a driveway who live in a house don't currently qualify for either scheme.
Landlords can also claim through a separate scheme, for up to 200 sockets across their properties.
How to claim
- Check you're eligible on GOV.UK's Find a Grant service for the renters and flat owners grant or the on-street parking grant.
- Choose an approved installer. Your installer applies and claims the grant, and takes it off your bill.
- Wait for confirmation before installing. The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles must confirm you're eligible first, which takes up to 10 working days.
- Your installer claims the grant after fitting the charger, with photos of the charger and parking space.
Don't let anyone install the charger before eligibility is confirmed, or you could lose the grant.
How long is the grant available?
GOV.UK says its chargepoint grant schemes are available until 31 March 2027. Schemes can change, so check the scheme pages before you book.
